The GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance, and The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust have joined as partners!
The GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance and The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust have partnered to promote the natural and historic value of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and to further a vision of music, arts and sustainability for Miami. The Park holds a venerable place in the social and civil rights movements of our country; the perfect site to host a creative, and culturally diverse gathering. February is Black History Month and the GrassRoots Festival recognizes the incredible opportunity of collaborating with this once segregated beach park, a storied setting reclaimed as a community-gathering place. We honor the work that has made the Historic Beach Park a destination for all! The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust continues to work diligently to share a unique cultural, environmental and recreational experience with South Floridians and all travelers that visit this Paradise Renewed.
We strive to create an environment where history can be learned, the present is experienced in context and the possibilities of the future can be seen through the lens of communal celebration. This natural partnership continues to evolve for the fifth annual Virginia Key GrassRoots Festival. The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust provides incredible support for GrassRoots and its venture in Miami! GrassRoots echoes this commitment by promoting the venue, bringing the people of Miami to Virginia Key, building creative and useful structures with volunteer labor at the park, and building networks of support toward museum projects onsite. As our organizations grow, together we work to enhance the cultural offerings of Miami. We build community around music, art and the environment of one of Miami’s natural treasures: Historic Virginia Key Beach Park!
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has awarded the Virginia Key GrassRoots Festival a Knight Arts Challenge Matching Grant of $75,000.
We need your help to raise funds to match this grant, as is required to receive this generous award! This grant, ticket sales and community donations will allow our non-profit festival to return in 2017 for the 6th annual Virginia Key GrassRoots Festival!
You can donate online or on-site at the festival in our fundraising tent!
Over the past five years we have helped strengthen the music community in Miami, supporting artists, providing a platform for collaboration and engaging South Florida in a community building celebration of the arts and sustainable living. Help us thrive!

The GrassRoots Festival Organization welcomes Democracy 2.1 to Virginia Key! Brain-child of mathematician Karel Janeček, D2.1 is a Social Enterprise based in Karel’s home country of the Czech Republic with a goal of bringing representative democracy to a higher and more functional level by using mathematical algorithms in voting processes to reach greater consensus in elections, poling and direct decision making.
Imagine a world of Peace and Freedom with sensible government and a leadership whose decisions are based on a consensus from the direct participation of citizens; government for the people, by the people. Solving problems like Climate Change will require action on a global scale- it is very exciting to be able to collaborate with D2.1 and seekers of real democracy from across oceans and international borders!
Democracy 2.1 is sponsoring the GrassRoots D21 Sustainability Stage and will have information, demonstration apps and a poling station for participation by all- please stop by and check it out. Karel will be available at the D21 Stage Saturday to speak and answer questions.
This Miami non-profit creates cultural events in communities all over the Miami-Dade area, creating opportunities for local exposure to the arts. They support multi-cultural mediums and bring events of this nature to the people of Miami! This year, with help from a Knight Arts Grant, CAC will grow their Afro Roots World Music Festival to include an even more expansive group of performing artists!
What began as a passion for art, music and Miami culture, has evolved into a serious collaborative force among diverse artistic communities. Yo Miami partners with GrassRoots to bring you live art throughout the weekend, with finished pieces for purchase to benefit Little Haiti Mural Project.
Concrete Beach is an artisanal craft beer brewery located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District. Their mission is to provide great tasting craft beer inspired by the culture and flavors of Miami, all while supporting the arts and community organizations in the neighborhoods they serve.
Project Shelter is a social enterprise that sells camping gear that you can pick up when you arrive to the festival.
Reserve your camping gear online, and it will be available upon your arrival at the festival. Just select one of our featured Virginia Key GrassRoots camping gear packages, and it will be ready for you on-site for pick up.
Don’t forget that after the festival is over, give Project Shelter any equipment that you don’t want to lug back home. Project Shelter will make sure it gets donated to nonprofits such as Feed the Children, 501 (c)3, who make sure items are delivered to refugees and victims of disaster.
